While completing each level of my educational journey, I have had the opportunity to gain valuable experience from various resources. My experience first began in-house with stories of rewards and frustrations told by my sister, an educator working with special needs students. I also gained experience through my practicum and internship work at a summer program and an alternative school, providing counseling support to the students and staff.
After completing the necessary requirements to obtain my Masters in Counseling Degree at Clark Atlanta University, I began working as a School Counselor in the public school system, during which I completed my Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology. While working as a School Conselor, I provided In-home Counseling to individuals and families and served as a Facilitator for a Parenting Skills Training Program for an outside agency.
It is often the natural progression of a counselor to provide services in community settings [e.g., school, shelter, hospital, center, etc.] controlled by environmental rules and regulations. With the expansion of resources, education and experience, counselors often move into smaller settings [i.e., private practice] where no ceiling or limitations exists. Opening myself up to hearing and doing the will of God has afforded m many opportunities to expand in this profession. I consider the opening and operating of my very own private practice - Moving Mountains Consulting, LLC -an awesome opportunityfor spiritual, professional and personal growth.
I have gained valuable experience providing support and guidance for students, adults, and families on various personal, academic, and professional issues. Not taking advantage of all of the blessings I continue o receive, I have been given additional opportunities to utilize my experience and skills to assist other counselors, social workers, and human relations professionals with increasing his/her knowledge base and experience.
My advice to you is to Enjoy the Journey!!!
Start your new path in life and be the change today!
